MORGANTOWN, West Va. – Winning runs and school records opened the spring season for the St. Bonaventure women's outdoor track team Friday and Saturday at the Marty Pushkin Invitational hosted by West Virginia University.

Senior Mia Winters paced the field to take the event win in the 5000 meters on Friday night with a winning time of 18:20.23. She was 36 seconds ahead of teammate Jillian Lozo who made her collegiate outdoor debut by finishing second (18:56.23).

In Saturday's action, the Bonnies captured two event victories.

First, in the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Brianna Reynolds dominated with a winning time of 1:05.73, nearly three seconds ahead of the competition, and good for a school record in the program's short history of the event.

Later, to cap the weekend, the 4x400 relay team of Reynolds, Adria Magnusson, Malaika George and Madeline McKillop crushed the school record with a time of 4:04.88. Not only did the Bonnies team win the event by almost 14 seconds but they easily surpassed the existing school record time in the event of 4:23.52 posted two seasons ago.

Another school record fell in the 800 as Madeline McKillop soared to the top of the board with her effort of 2:19.27. Her run broke the record of 2:21.68 set by Magnusson which had stood for nearly three years. She placed third out of 49 competitors in Saturday's race.

Also in the 800, freshman Sydney March made her outdoor debut by nearly topping the existing Bonnies record as well – she moves to third in school history at 2:21.98, just ahead of Madison McMahon who also set a Bona top-five mark of 2:22.84.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH BOB MACFARLANE
"This was a really strong showing for our distance group. We executed exactly what we wanted and how we want to race. Going first, second and fourth shows front-end strength. Mia Winters did a great job taking control of her race and closing strong to win and the support behind her was just as important. Having multiple athletes up front like that is what we'll need moving into championship racing.

"The hurdle group had an outstanding day, led by Bri Reynolds who showed her ability in the 100-meter hurdles and an impressive first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.

"In mid-distance, Maddie McKillop is setting the standard in the 800 meters while Maddie McMahon is making her mark as our top 1500 runner. Both are showing strong early season form and leadership in their events.

"This meet gave us a solid baseline for where we are right now. We'll take what we learned and continue to refine the small details and keep improving."

UP NEXT
The Bonnies will head to Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania to race at the Jim Taylor Duals next Saturday.
