The GoBonnies.com Student-Athletes of the Week presented by CPL for the week ending March 22 are women's lacrosse senior Brooke Piper and baseball junior Anthony Fernandez.
Piper had a history-making week for Bonnies lacrosse as she broke the program's all-time record for career goals when she notched her 155th score in a Bona uniform on the first possession of the game last Wednesday vs. Duquesne. She went on to make the record her own with an incredible day, scoring seven goals and nine total points in a 14-9 Atlantic 10 victory. With her effort, she broke the existing record of 154 career goals held since 2011 by Christine Hanley.Â
On Saturday, she helped the Bonnies complete a perfect A-10 week with a victory at Rhode Island with her 10th hat trick of the season.
For the week, she finished with 10 goals, 12 points and nine draw controls. She now ranks 10th among all active Division I players with 164 career goals.
Fernandez had an outstanding Atlantic 10 series for Bonnies baseball against Saint Louis this past weekend. He finished the weekend with a .692 batting average and .733 on-base percentage as he went 9-for-13 at the plate with five runs scored, three RBIs and three stolen bases.
The Rhode Island native reached base safely multiple times in all three games, going 4-for-5 with a double in Saturday's game before helping to key a Bonnies win in the finale Sunday with a 3-for-4 day, scoring three times with three RBIs.
For the season, Fernandez is hitting an even .400 to lead the team.
