The St. Bonaventure men's outdoor track team entered into split squad action on Sunday with sprinters and hurdlers heading to the Bucknell Outdoor Classic with the remainder of the squad competing at the Brockport Multis.
Bona's sprint unit in Bucknell was headlined by senior Christian Figueroa breaking his own school record in the 400 meters. He won his heat on Sunday and clocked in at 49.42, bettering his existing record of 49.77 which he set at William & Mary a year ago.
Henry Morris also won his heat race in the 400-meter hurdles and clocked in at 57.08.
In Brockport, freshman Cameron Ogletree had a strong meet as he posted a new school record in the 100 meters of 11.51, narrowly topping his previous best of 11.52 posted three weeks ago. He also matched his PR in the 200 of 23.18.
At Brockport's 400-meter event, junior Riley Dillon established a new PR as well, also breaking the existing school record entering the day as he timed in at 49.54 to stand second in the program record book behind Figueroa's new best. Classmate Aidan Hurley also registered a new PR of 51.80, good for fourth individually in the program top-10.
QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH BOB MACFARLANE
"A contingent of mid-distance and distance athletes competed at Brockport, where we were able to place athletes in a variety of events to build adaptability to different racing conditions. Many athletes also moved down an event to target and develop their quick-twitch muscle groups. Across both meets today, the teams recorded 14 personal bests. Counting both Saturday and Sunday results, we had a total of 26 PRs, highlighting steady progress in the season. The runners continue to gain valuable experience and a stronger understanding of race tactics to further their development.
"Looking ahead, the next two regular season meets will focus on refining race strategies for athletes who have already qualified for championships, while providing additional opportunities for others to meet qualifying standards for A-10s. Overall this was a very strong and encouraging weekend for the program, highlighted by record-breaking performances, numerous personal bests, and continued development across all event groups. The team is gaining valuable experience, improving race awareness, and showing the versatility and momentum needed as we approach the championship phase of the season."
