Penn State nips Bonnies 2-0

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Two second-half goals secured a 2-0 victory for the 13th-ranked Nittany Lions over St. Bonaventure's men's soccer team on Sunday afternoon at Jeffrey Field.

After a scoreless first half, Penn State's Simon Omekanda headed a pass from eight yards out into the left corner of the goal in the 51st minute. The teams exchanged scoring opportunities until Brian Tully netted a goal off a pass from Mike Lindemann in the 87th minute to seal the victory for Penn State.

"Even though I wasn't pleased with the outcome, I'm proud of the boys," said head coach Bill Brady.

The Nittany Lions outshot the Bonnies 14-6. Freshman midfielder Kevin Omokhua led St. Bonaventure with two shots.

Junior Sean Eyde was in goal for St. Bonaventure, recording four saves to Penn State's one.

The loss puts St. Bonaventure at 0-5-1 on the season.

The Bonnies return to action on Wednesday, September 24 when they take on Canisius at at 4:00 p.m. at the Sahlen's Sports Park in Buffalo.
