Bonnies top G.W. 2-1 in season finale

WASHINGTON, DC - The St. Bonaventure men's soccer team finished the season strong with a 2-1 victory in the final game of their 2008 season to George Washington on Sunday afternoon on the Mount Vernon Athletic Field.

With the win, St. Bonaventure finishes the season with a 6-6-4 record overall and 4-4-1 in the conference, while George Washington drops to 8-6-3 overall and 4-3-2 in the A-10.

With today's win, the Bonnies finish the season on a two-game winning streak and finish the season with a .500 or better A-10 record for the first time since 1999.

George Washington got on the board first in the fourth minute when junior Erick Perez-Segnini headed home his fifth goal of the season off a cross from Kyle Albrecht to put the Colonials up 1-0

The Bonnies would answer in the 2nd half in the 56th minute when junior Samuel Maheu beat a defender to a loose ball in the box and slid in his fifth goal of the season to tie game for the Brown and White 1-1.

The Brown and White would tally the game-winning goal in the 75th minute when junior Matt Culo scored his first goal of the season off a Kevin Okapal pass to put the Bonnies ahead to stay, 2-1.

Bonnie goalkeeper David Flynn made nine saves on the afternoon to preserve the win for the Brown and White.

St. Bonaventure finished the 2008 season tied for seventh place in the Atlantic 10 standings with 13 points, just missing out on the Atlantic 10 Championships by one point.
