ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The St. Bonaventure softball team travels to Little Three rival Canisius for a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader at the Demske Sports Complex.
The Bonnies enter the twin bill with an 8-13 (5-7 A-10) record, and are coming off a pair of losses at Massachusetts on Sunday. UMass pitcher Sara Plourde threw a no-hitter in a 1-0 win in the opener, and then allowed only two hits in the nightcap, defeating the Bonnies 7-1.
Senior Maureen Wells leads St. Bonaventure with a .362 batting average, five home runs, and 21 RBI. Sophomore Jessenia Andujar has recorded a team-high 20 hits, with three home runs, and has added 10 RBI. Junior Diana Phalon and freshman Jen Sansano have shared primary pitching duties, combining for seven wins, 11 complete games, and 57 strikeouts.
The Golden Griffins are fresh off a series split with Manhattan on Sunday, taking the first game 8-0, before dropping game two, 5-3. Outfielder Lauren Hope is batting at a .412 clip, with 35 base hits and 21 runs scored. Infielder Paige Freiberger leads the team in RBI (18) and walks (19). Pitchers Jen Consaul, Caroline Main, and Amanda Baun have a combined 4.39 ERA, and have struck out 134 batters in 165.2 innings pitched.
First pitch in game one between St. Bonaventure and Canisius is scheduled for 3 p.m., with the second game tentatively slated to start at 5 p.m.
