Softball Takes Two to Open Hatter Classic

Box Scores: Mount St. Mary's | Bethune-Cookman

DeLAND, Fla. - The St. Bonaventure softball team (3-3) picked up a pair of wins against Mount St. Mary's and Bethune-Cookman on Friday at the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson University.

Jen Sansano (1-2) worked a five-inning two-hitter from the circle, and the Bonnies plated six runs in the fifth and final inning to close out a 9-0 win over Mount Saint Mary's to open the action.

SBU got two runs in the second, added another in the fourth and used Ashley Snider's two-run homer with none out in the fifth to spark a six-run frame that effectively ended the game.

Christine Watson finished 3-for-3, while freshman Grace Rooney was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored. Lindsay Stowell and Brittany Storch each batted in two runs.

Diana Phalon (2-1) scattered five hits across seven innings to lead the way in a 3-0 victory opposite Bethune-Cookman in the finale. The senior surrendered a pair of two-out singles in the first and settled in from there, striking out four with just one walk in the complete-game effort.  Snider, Rooney and Jessenia Andujar picked up an RBI each, while senior Brooke Frey was 2-for-3 in the win.

St. Bonaventure continues action in the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson University tomorrow with games against Bethune-Cookman and Stetson.
