Bonnies Claim Hatter Classic at Stetson

Box Scores: B-C | Stetson | B-C

DeLAND, Fla.
– The St. Bonaventure softball team (5-4) claimed two of its final three games on the weekend to win the Championship game at the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson University.

Playing in its fifth game in three days, freshman Grace Rooney powered the Bonnies' five run first inning on the Championship game with a three-RBI triple down the right field line to take a 5-4 lead after one. The blast gave SBU a short lived margin, though, as Bethune-Cookman pushed three across in its half of the second to reclaim the advantage, 7-5.

Diana Phalon (3-2) stepped in to replace starter Jen Sansano (2-2) from there, working 5 and one-third innings of two-hit ball as the Bonnies surged ahead. Hali Enderby's two-RBI single up the middle was enough to knot the score, before Jessenia Andujar came home later in the inning on an infield error.

Kelli Rohan singled up the middle in the fifth to give SBU an insurance tally and its fourth win in five games.

After defeating Bethune-Cookman 3-0 for its third straight win to open action on Saturday, host Stetson handed the Bonnies a 3-2 loss, the first runs allowed by Bona in 26 innings during its three-game streak.

Andujar finished the week an eye-popping 7-for-12 with three RBI and four runs scored, while freshman was 6-for-12 with a team-best five RBI. Phalon went 2-1 for the week, striking out 10 and posting a 0.76 earned-run average across 18 innings of work.

The Bonnies return to action on Wednesday against Mount St. Mary's for a neutral-site doubleheader at Stetson.
