Game 2 Box

BUFFALO, N.Y.
– The St. Bonaventure softball team (5-29) saw its losing streak stretch to nine games with a pair of losses at Canisius on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Griffins took game one 7-4 and followed that up with a 4-2 victory in the finale.

The Bonnies would get on the board first in the top of the third. Emily Belfield led off with a single that would be followed up by and Emily McDonough bunt single. With Belfield advancing to third on a throwing error, McDonough was able to steal second giving the Brown and White runners on first and third with nobody out.

Ashley Snider would drive in the first run with a single. Jessenia Andujar carried over her hot hitting from the weekend with a double that drove in a run and would eventually come around to score thanks to some throwing errors.

The 3-0 lead would turn into a 4-0 lead in the fifth when Grace Rooney drove home Lindsay Stowell on a ground out.

Canisius however would not allow the Bonnies to run away with this one. In the bottom half of the fifth, the Golden Griffins put up four runs on freshman pitcher Carly Bilchak.

The Bonnies were unable to answer in the sixth but Canisius stayed hot putting up three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to provide the difference in this one. The Golden Griffins closed out the Bonnies in the seventh without surrendering so much as a hit.

Ashley Snider was the only St. Bonaventure player to record multiple hits in this one, going 2-4 with an RBI. Jessenia Andujar (1-3) and Grace Rooney (0-1) each had an RBI as well.

Grace Rooney took to the circle for the Bonnies in game two and kept the Golden Griffins at bay for the most part. It was the offense that would fail the Brown and White this time. St. Bonaventure would manage just three hits against Canisius' Solis and Baun.

Canisius did the bulk of its damage in the fourth, scoring three runs on four hits. St. Bonaventure answered with a run of its own in the fifth but would not record another hit as Canisius held on to the 4-2 victory.

Jessenia Andujar would pick up the only RBI in the game for the Bonnies. McDonough, Andujar and Belfield had the only hits.

The Bonnies are back in action tomorrow when they welcome Binghamton for their first home games of the season.
