KINGSTON, R.I. – The St. Bonaventure men's indoor track team set four school records over the course of the two-day Atlantic 10 Championship meet held on the campus of Rhode Island University Saturday and Sunday.
New Bonnies record times were set in the 1000, 3000, 5000 and distance medley relay.
"Over the course of the 2023 indoor season, 18 of our athletes have re-written the program top-10 record book," St. Bonaventure head coach Bob Macfarlane said. "Our student-athletes have maintained a high level of competitiveness, desire and dedication to achieve their goals. They all had the will to prepare and never gave up. We're proud of their accomplishments during indoor season."
Darion Gregory broke his own school record in the 1000 meters which stood for less than a week. The fourth-year Bonnies runner clocked in at 2:35.79, surpassing his effort of 2:36.35 that went to the top of the board for the program at Cornell last Saturday.
Ethan Luce set another school record in the 5000. The freshman crossed the finish line in 15:48.79, beating the previous Bonnies best mark of 15:51.91 and bettering his own PR by 15 seconds.
Sophomore Colin McCarthy also broke the previous school record with his run of 15:49.98 to stand second in school history.
The Bonnies scored a third school record on the first day of championships as the distance medley relay team of Gregory, Aiden Scattergood, Alex Ryan and Brian Gleason logged a time of 11:01.26.
Clay Peets gave the Bonnies another new school-best time on Sunday in the 3000 meters. Already the school record holder for the event, he beat his own mark by nearly five full seconds as he clocked in at 8:35.59 to finish 16th out of 33 competitors at conference championships.
Also in the 3000, Conor Quinn (9:13.58) and Casey Malloy (9:14.07) ran PR marks for program top-five times.
In the 800 meters, Scattergood recorded a personal best time of 1:58.22 to finish 11th out of 15 competitors. That mark stands second in Bona's history for the event, and surpasses his previous top mark of the season by just over a second. Gleason also set a PR time in the 800 at 2:01.04.
Zane Courtwright logged a personal best in the mile on Sunday, finishing in 4:26.76. That time is good for third in program individual history.
During indoor season, the Bonnies established new school record times in six of the nine events run by the team.
