HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Freshman twin sisters Julia Wyant and Jenna Wyant made their St. Bonaventure track debuts a day to remember Friday at the Houghton December Classic, each setting new school records in the first indoor track meet of the 2024-25 season.
Julia Wyant sprinted to the top of the Bonnies record board in two events – the 60 meters and the 200 meters.
In the 60, she won her heat race and ran the fourth-fastest time overall out of 29 competitors at 8.21 and a new school record. She bested the time of 8.60 set by Bridget Kennedy in 2022 to jump to the top of the school record book in the event.
She claimed another new school record in the 200, running a time of 27.47 to shatter the previous top school mark of 28.28 also set by Kennedy in 2022.
Not to be outdone, her sister Jenna also wrote her name into the Bonnies record book in her first collegiate meet. Jenna won the 400 meters on Friday night, clocking in at 1:01.36 to sneak past the previous school-best time in the event of 1:01.92 set by Adria Magnusson in 2023.
Junior Mia Winters gave the Bonnies another event win in the 3000 meters as she dominated the field with a winning time of 10:42.22. She finished nearly 30 seconds ahead of every other competitor in the 20-athlete race.
Finishing third in the 3000 was junior Molly Gipson (11:12.40), one spot ahead of freshman Miranda Habshi who jumped to eighth in the school record book with her performance of 11:21.60.
Other Bonnies student-athletes set multiple other program top-10 times in the season lid-lifter as well.
Junior Riley Fronce moved to sixth in the Bonnies' 400 meters top times with her run of 1:06.40 and a PR mark.
Three new Bona's top-10 times came in the 800 as freshman Madeline McKillop made her collegiate track debut with an effort of 2:25.90, good for third both in Friday's race as well as individually in the school record book. Magnusson, who owns the 800 school record, finished fourth (2:26.70) ahead of Faith Caldwell (2:28.86) and Madison McMahon who ran her first track event with a time of 2:30.01 to move to fifth in school history. Junior Mary Trost gave the Bonnies another new top-10 time in the event of 2:32.52 to jump to ninth.
The indoor season gets underway in full following the semester break when the Bonnies return to action Saturday, Jan. 25 at the SPIRE Midwest Invite.
