The St. Bonaventure women's track team enjoyed a busy weekend of competition with athletes competing both at the Colonial Relays at Williamsburg, Va. as well as at the Geneseo Early Season Invite.
In Virginia, multiple new school records were written by the Bonnies.
Julia Wyant jumped to the top of the board in the program records list for the 100 meters as she ran a time of 13.07 to eclipse the previous record of 13.25 posted by Meghan Litteer last year who also PR'ed on Friday and beat her previous record as she turned in a mark of 13.20. Riley Gomolka gave the Bonnies another PR with her run of 13.60.
Wyant registered another school record in the 200 as she crossed the finish stripe in 26.62. Her effort in that event shattered the previous school-best mark of 27.79 set in 2022 by Bridget Kennedy. Litteer also broke the existing school record as she jumped to second in the Bona records list at 27.39.
Not to be outdone, Julia's twin sister Jenna Wyant scored a program record of her own in the 400 meters at 1:00.50. She broke the mark set by Julia of 1:00.63 just a week ago.
Molly Gipson recorded the second-fastest 3000-meter steeplechase individual time in Bona's history of 11:38.57, almost 10 seconds faster than her previous best.
In the 800, both Alex Jensen and Mary Trost turned in new program top-10 times while Madison McMahon and Katelyn Wilkes each did so in the 1500. All of the athletes in both of those events ran Atlantic 10 qualifying times.
QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH BOB MACFARLANE
"The St. Bonaventure men's and women's track teams had an impressive showing at the William and Mary Invitational on Friday, competing against some of the top runners on the East Coast. The teams demonstrated strong determination, not backing down from the elite competition. Each event was well represented, showing the team's growth and the promising direction they're heading. Both Coach Lonzi and myself are extremely proud of how the day unfolded."
"The athletes competing at the Geneseo Early Season Invite did very well in the challenging weather conditions—cold, rainy, and windy. The teams maintained a positive attitude and performed. They ran with heart and we are very impressed with their overall progress and hard work. Notable highlights included strong recoveries from injured athletes Chloe Fisher, Kylie Paylor and Sara Thomas in the 5K."
