Freshman Brendan Chapple set his second school record in as many weeks to highlight the weekend competition for the St. Bonaventure men's track team.
The team had two competitions as part of the team competed Friday night at Nazareth University and much of the squad took to the Deneault Invitational at Cornell Saturday as well.
Chapple posted a new time to beat for all Bonnies in the 1000 meters at Nazareth Friday evening.
Fresh off breaking the school's oldest standing record in the mile last weekend, Chapple won the 1K on Friday night with a winning time of 2:32.91. That effort surpassed the standing school record of 2:35.79 set at last year's Atlantic 10 Championships by Darion Gregory by almost three full seconds.
The Bonnies took the top three spots on the podium in the 1000 meters as sophomore Alex Ryan also broke the previous SBU record with his second-place run of 2:34.41. Freshman Joshua Lopez ran third at 2:36.41.
In the mile, William McCarthy and Lucas Catarella competed in the event for the first time this season and both turned in solid efforts. McCarthy ran 4:31.55, good for eighth individually on the program leaderboard while Catarella clocked in at 4:34.57, just missing a top-10 program time by less than half a second.
More top-10 program times came on Saturday at Cornell.
Chapple had a full weekend as he also competed in the mile with a run of 4:27.87. He placed 13th out of 49 runners in Saturday's event. Sophomore Aiden Scattergood also PR'ed in the mile with a performance of 4:28.07 and the seventh-fastest individual time in school history.
Bona competed in the 600 meters for the first time this season with Lopez registering the fastest of three SBU times in that event. His run of 1:26.54 will stand second in program history and he finished second in Saturday's race, less than two seconds off the winning time.
Senior Zane Courtwright was strong in the 3000 meters. He clocked in at 8:37.19 to take fifth out of 33 athletes in the event. Â
Conference meet qualifiers will next travel to Virginia Beach, Va., for A-10 Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday.
