ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Four members of the St. Bonaventure men's cross country/track teams have earned selection to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team: graduate student Darion Gregory, junior Brian Gleason and sophomores Clay Peets and Colin McCarthy.

The 2023 Academic All-District Men's Track & Field / Cross Country Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. Honorees were selected by sports information directors across the country.

Gregory received his undergraduate degree in environmental studies with a 3.99 cumulative GPA before moving into graduate work where he owns a 3.77 GPA working on his MBA. In competition, he stands as one of the top performers in Bonnies program history by standing in the individual top-10 in 15 different events in the school record book. During outdoor track season, he established a new school record in the 3000-meter steeplechase, running the event for the first time. He finished 10th in the event at this year's Atlantic 10 Championships.

A native of Smethport, Pa., Gregory also finished in the team's top three at every cross country event this past season. During his career, he captured Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team accolades six times between cross country and track.

Gleason ran several times to land himself in the program's record book during the past season. He ran the third-fastest individual 800 meter times in both the indoor and outdoor seasons while posting the seventh-fastest outdoor 1500 and eighth-best indoor mile time this spring. In addition, he was part of four record-setting relays, including the 4x800 relay record time set at this year's Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships and the distance medley relay record effort at the A-10 Indoor Championships.

An adolescence education major from Hamburg, N.Y., Gleason owns a 3.89 cumulative GPA in the classroom.

Peets re-wrote the Bonnies record books in his second season with the program. The Akron, Ohio native either set a new school record or broke his own in four straight cross country meets to begin the 2022 season and now owns the top times in both the 5K (15:16.3) and 8K (25:21.1).

He has been just as strong in the track seasons, posting three school records between indoor and outdoor, taking the top times in the 3000 for both seasons as well as the outdoor 5000m. He currently stands second in the program record books for the outdoor 1500m and indoor mile as well. At this year's A-10 Outdoor Championships, he gave the program its top-ever finish with a ninth in the 5000 as he broke his previous school record by over 12 seconds.

In the classroom, he is a sports media major with a 3.61 cumulative GPA.

McCarthy was also a strong performer for the team in both cross country and track. During the fall season, he placed in the team's top seven in all but one cross country meet, including three meets where he finished in the scoring.

In track, he owns six top-six program times including posting the second-fastest outdoor 10K mark, and best for the school since 1988, earlier this spring. He also ran a top-five school time for the indoor 3000 this year and his 5000 effort at the A-10 Indoor Championships vaulted him to second in school history.

A native of Yorktown, N.Y., McCarthy is a health sciences major with a 3.88 cumulative GPA.
