St. Bonaventure

The founder of the swimming program, he coached the team from 1949 to 1954.

An educator, he was chairman of the department of physical education and chairman of the education department.

Two of his sons have followed him as swimming coaches at St. Bonaventure University.

The university recognizes two graduating seniors each year with the “John J. McNamee” Award for general excellence in physical education and elementary education.
