Called the ‘best player we have ever had’ by longtime Bonnies tennis coach Michael Bates, Arce wasted little time in making a name for himself. As a freshman in 2001-02, the native of Bolivia won 17 singles matches against only three losses and was named the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Rookie of the Year.

Arce’s encore? He was named the A-10 Player of the Year as a sophomore after he helped St. Bonaventure win its second Atlantic 10 championship and an NCAA Tournament berth.  Arce posted records of 21-10 in singles and 19-10 in doubles that season.  As a junior, he was again named All-Conference after he went 24-10 in singles and 16-11 in doubles. Finally, as a senior in 2005, Arce earned his second A-10 Player of the Year award and was regionally ranked 11th in singles and 12th for doubles. He became the first Bonnies player to be nationally ranked and he set a school record for singles wins, going 31-6. His career records were a remarkable 93-29 in singles and 66-37 in doubles – a combined 159 wins.

Also during his senior year, tennis coaches across the Northeast region selected Arce for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship. Arce received St. Bonaventure’s 2004-05 Letterwinner Award, given to the top graduating athlete. He earned a degree in business and now lives and works in his native country.
