While attending St. Bonaventure, Cy Kritzer played football for one year and baseball for three years, and in 1928 he was named captain of the 1928 varsity baseball team.

At St. Bonaventure, Kritzer won three letters in baseball and was captain of his team in his senior year. At Bonaventure, Kritzer also had a chance to meet some of the legendary greats of baseball when John McGraw brought an all-star team to the campus for an exhibition game. Kritzer pitched for the Bonnies against future Hall of Famers like Rogers Hornsby, Travis Jackson, Mel Ott and Bill Terry as well as some of the era’s other great stars.

Kritzer is most remembered for is his famed career in journalism in the field of sports writing. From 1929 to 1974, Cy was on the staff of the Buffalo Evening News and his stories appeared twice in the annual publication Best Sport Stories.

Among other accomplishments, from 1944 to 1950 Kritzer was a member of the Major League Baseball Scoring Rules Committee and also served as the chairman of that committee.

Kritzer was also the president of the International Baseball Writers Association, as well as being the first president of the National Association of Baseball Writers.

In 1970 he was honored by the commissioner of baseball, Bowie Kuhn, for "Outstanding Journalistic Achievement."
