Thiru Govender was the 1994 Atlantic 10 Senior of the Year in men’s tennis. The South African native led St. Bonaventure to back-to-back fifth place finishes at the A-10 Championship in 1993 and
1994 – dramatic improvements from prior years.
In the 1993-94 season, Govender led the Bonnies to a team record of 16-3, a then-school record for wins. A dominating player at the top of the lineup, Govender assembled career records of 61-10 in singles and 66-7 in doubles.
After he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Govender received a post-graduate scholarship from the Atlantic 10 Conference, and he went on to earn a master’s degree in business administration from St. Bonaventure in 1995.
