Hall of Fame
A member of the U.S. Olympic track and field team in 1924. He won the bronze medal in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in Dublin, Ireland at the 1924 Tailteann Games.Â
At St. Bonaventure, Bell became the Freshman I.C.A.A.A Cross Country Champion in 1925.
He was a member of the first place team at the Junior National Cross Country Championships in 1926, and a member of the second place team at the Senior National Cross Country Championships.
He placed third as an individual in the junior nationals and fifth in the senior nationals in 1926. For two years (1926-1927) he was the New York State two mile champion.
Bell earned a spot at the 1927 Summer Student World Championships held in Rome, Italy. There, he won silver the 3000 meters (9:28.0).Â
Bell served in France and Russia during World War I and went to seminary at St. Francis Seminary and was ordained in 1932. He passed away after drowning while trying to assist another capsized boat.
