A baseball catcher and football center (1927-1930), Thomas O'Connor was named All-Little Three in football (1930).
Starting as the assistant football coach at Medford (MA) High School in 1933, he was elevated to head coach the following year.
He served as head coach from 1934-1941, and 1946-1948. His team became state champions in 1947.
O’Connor served as the New England region scout for Blesto (1966-1970), and later worked as a scout and training camp coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings (1970-1972).
