Dominant from the day he arrived on campus, Kevin Paulsen was the beginning of a pair of successful decades of men’s swimming at St. Bonaventure.

As a freshman in 1989, Paulsen set the tone for his illustrious four-year career at the Eastern Intercollegiate Championships by setting three then-varsity records. Paulsen captured the gold in the 500 freestyle and 1650 freestyle and was a member of the 800 freestyle relay team that finished first in the 1989 Eastern meet.

Over his four years at the team’s biggest meet of the season, Paulsen as an individual or a part of a relay team finished with four first-place finishes, six second-place finishes and another five third-place touches. Despite advances in technology, Paulsen still owned the school record in the 500 freestyle and was a member of the record-setting 800 freestyle relay at the time of his induction.

A Dean’s List student as a biology major, Paulsen received the Athletic Department’s Senior Academic Merit Award in 1992.
