St. Bonaventure

John Thurling, a four-year varsity letterman from 1987-91, was one of only four SBU swimmers to qualify for the NCAA championships, which he did for three years. Thurling competed in the 100-yard butterfly from 1988-90, and the 400-yard freestyle relay in 1988.

In 1989, Thurling was an Eastern Intercollegiate championship finalist in six events: the 200, 400 and 800 relay teams, the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, and the 100 butterfly, which qualified him for the NCAAs.
