Jim Satalin served as captain of the 1968-69 team and scored 874 points during his illustrious career. Two of his teams had 20-win seasons (1976-77, '77-78) and the 1977 squad captured the NIT championship with a 24-6 record. Satalin would also help Bona to the 1978 NCAA Tournament, later drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks before becoming SBU head coach. As head coach (1973-82), he compiled a career record of 156-93 for a .626 winning percentage. He is an Athletics Hall of Fame member, inducted in 1987.

He returned to his alma mater to become the St. Bonaventure head coach from 1973 to 1982. Satalin led the Bonnies to a 156-93 record and the 1977 National Invitation Tournament championship. He was named the ECAC Coach of the Year in 1977.
