Whitey was one of the fastest backfield men in the game. He and Clem Faust - one of the first picks for the Hall of Fame - were halfback running mates dubbed the "Touchdown Twins." He was also nicknamed "The Hard Luck Kid" because he scored more than any man on the squad, but he always had the misfortune of having the run called back for some penalty or another: nine touchdowns were called back.

In the fall of 1933, he ran the ball three times and scores within three minutes as Bonaventure rallied to a 15-6 win over rival Canisius.

Whitey was honored by receiving Little All-American status for all four years of his college career. He was also picked to the Little Three All-Star Team in 1933 and 1935. Upon graduation, he played professional football in the Canadian League.
