A native of Albion, N.Y., Johnson blossomed into one of the premier pitchers in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

A 5-foot-10 right-hander, Johnson featured a repertoire of pitches that kept batters off-balance. As a sophomore in 2001, Johnson went 7-2 with a 1.88 ERA and was named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Year and a first team All-Conference selection. His ERA was the lowest in the A-10 and ranked seventh among all NCAA Division I pitchers.

In 2002, Johnson was named to the All-Conference second team and to the Academic All-Conference Team after he led the Bonnies in wins (6), ERA (3.88), complete games (6), innings pitched (69.2). All six of his wins were complete games, Atlantic 10 victories. Johnson helped St. Bonaventure to a berth in the A-10 Tournament.

As a senior, Johnson went 6-4 with a 5.71 ERA, ending his career with a school record 23 wins. He also set St. Bonaventure career records for complete games (16) and innings pitched (254.2) and finished his career second in Bona’s history in strikeouts (190) and starts (34) at the time of his induction.

Johnson became the third modern-era baseball alumni and the first pitcher to make the Hall of Fame and is a senior analyst with Duke Energy in Charlotte, N.C. He and his wife, former Bonnies lacrosse player Brianne Bastian, have two children.
